Millions of Americans protest in ‘No Kings’ round against Trump’s ‘Authoritarianism’
WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 (YPA) – Millions of Americans took to the streets in over 2,700 cities and towns across the United States on Saturday, as part of the second round of demonstrations for the “No Kings” campaign.
The protests, considered one of the largest single-day mass movements, came in objection to the ongoing federal government shutdown and to express demonstrators’ rejection of what they described as the increasing “authoritarian tendency” in President Donald Trump’s administration.
Major cities witnessed massive gatherings; in New York, more than 100,000 demonstrators gathered in Times Square, chanting slogans against immigration policies and civil rights. Approximately 50,000 protesters also participated in San Francisco to protest the deployment of the National Guard and the restriction of immigrants.
The organizing movement, “No Kings,” confirmed that nearly 7 million people participated in these demonstrations, which came after the government shutdown entered its 18th day.
