HADRAMOUT, July 28 (YPA) – The director of the Electricity Corporation in the Hadramout province, which are under the control of UAE-backed factions, Mazen bin Makhashin, announced that the city of Mukalla, the province’s capital, will be plunged into darkness within a few hours.
Bin Makhashin explained that electricity will be cut off in Mukalla and the rest of the coastal districts starting Monday morning. This is due to the shutdown of power plants due to fuel shortages since last Friday. He noted that “PetroMasila” company did not send the usual daily fuel supplies, and that only a weekly supply was provided on Saturday.
The past few days have witnessed power outages lasting more than 12 hours a day, significantly impacting the lives of residents and exacerbating their suffering, especially in light of the soaring summer temperatures. Despite this, this crisis has received little attention from the Saudi-led coalition-backed government, which has ignored the situation in Hadramout and other areas.
Hadramout’s oil and mineral wealth, as well as its financial resources, continue to be systematically plundered by Emirati companies and Saudi-backed entities, without being used to support the sustainable development of the province.
Protests are expected to escalate in Mukalla in the coming days, expressing popular anger at the official performance of local authorities linked to the coalition. This comes amid the continued detention of Hadramout Governor Mabkhout bin Madi in Riyadh by Saudi authorities since last April.
