BRUSSELS, June 14 (YPA) – The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) announced the signing of an agreement with Jordan to establish the alliance’s first diplomatic liaison office in the Middle East last Friday.
According to a statement issued by NATO, the agreement was signed last Thursday in Brussels, Belgium. Ambassador Yousef Batayneh, accredited to the alliance, represented Jordan, while Javier Colomina, NATO’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighborhood, signed for the alliance.
The decision to open this first NATO diplomatic office in the Middle East was announced during the alliance’s summit held in Washington, D.C., in July 2024.
This decision reflects the alliance’s leaders’ efforts to strengthen NATO’s approach to its southern neighborhood and increase its presence and activity in the region. The office is expected to be officially opened soon after the agreement is signed.
