Iran shoots down US MQ-1 drone over Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, Sept. 08 (YPA) –  The Iranian Army said its air defense had shot down a US MQ-1 drone over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Army said its air defense forces detected, tracked and targeted the drone in southeastern Iran before striking and destroying it.

The Army said the operation was carried out using “a new advanced air defense system.”

It added that the operation was conducted “under the control of the country’s integrated air defense network.”
