Travelers injured due to armed clashes in Abyan

ABYAN, Feb. 22 (YPA) – A number of travelers were injured in armed clashes between pro-UAE factions and unknown elements in Abyan governorate, southern Yemen.

Local sources explained that clashes erupted yesterday, between the “Security Belt” factions affiliated with the Transitional Council and unknown gunmen believed to belong to the factions in the Dofas area of Khanfar district, as a result of which a number of citizens traveling on the main road linking Aden and Abyan were injured, without mentioning the number of wounded.

The sources attributed the clashes to the militants’ attempt to assassinate a tribal sheikh in the region during the past months.
