Pro-Palestine British journalist arrested in Austria

SANAA, Feb. 09 (YPA) – Austrian police arrested Richard Medhorst, an internationally known pro-Palestinian journalist, whereas Austrian police and intelligence officers raided his home and arrested him.

According to reports, police alleged that Medhorst is a member of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and promotes “terrorism.”

Austria-based Medhurst, who strongly denies the allegations, said he was briefly detained by security forces and was similarly arrested by British police in August.

Medhurst declared that when local authorities in Vienna called him in for an interview last week, officials told him they were considering revoking his residency because of his reporting on Gaza and Lebanon.

He was ambushed by a group of plainclothes police who said they were the Austrian equivalent of Britain’s MI5 or the FBI, he added.
