PRETORIA, Aug. 02 (YPA) – Activists shut down the UAE embassy in the Arcadia neighborhood of Pretoria, the South African capital, as part of an “international day of action” to protest what they described as “Abu Dhabi’s role in supporting the war on Gaza and its involvement in the Sudanese crisis.”
The protesters stormed the embassy compound, waving banners reading “UAE complicit in genocide” and “Stop UAE complicity.” They issued a statement calling for pressure on the UAE to end its trade and military ties with “Israel” and “militias” in Sudan.
During the protest, which lasted several hours, the activists blocked the entrances to the embassy, while security forces and armored police were deployed around the building, setting up barriers to prevent any attempts to breach it.
The move was coordinated by a network of human rights organizations and local activists, as well as members of some Palestinian and Sudanese communities. They called for an end to Emirati support, which they say is being used to enable “Israel” to continue its blockade of Gaza. Protesters also directed their anger at the UAE’s position in the Sudan crisis.
