Israeli army faces internal turmoil, as “Halevi” tops list of military resignations

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Jan. 21 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation army Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, announced his resignation on Tuesday, in the aftermath of the events of October 7, 2023.

Halevi stated that he submitted his resignation to the minister of defense due to the failures linked to that day. His resignation is set to take effect on March 6.

In his resignation letter, Halevi acknowledged the army’s failure to fulfill its duty to protect Israel, which came at a significant cost to the nation. He took full responsibility for the shortcomings of October 7 and described the impact of that date as something that weighs on him daily and continuously.

Halevi noted that the Israeli army had been engaged in months-long warfare across seven fronts, achieving what he described as accomplishments that reshaped the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Channel 13 in Israel reported details of a wave of resignations among military leadership, pointing to significant instability within the Israeli military establishment.

Among these resignations, Southern Command leader Yaron Finkelman also stepped down, citing his inability to secure western Negev on October 7. Finkelman stated that this failure would remain etched in his life indefinitely.

These resignations follow the departure of Yossi Shariel, head of Unit 8200, for reasons similarly tied to the events of October 7.

Additionally, Military Intelligence Directorate Chief Aharon Haliva is expected to vacate his position in April 2024 as part of the ongoing fallout from that day.
