NEW YORK, Jan. 18 (YPA) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has raised concerns about the escalating dangers civilians face in Sudan, pointing to reports of two ethnically motivated attacks in Gezira State, located in central Sudan.
In a statement released on Friday, Türk emphasized the dire humanitarian conditions affecting civilians, with growing evidence of war crimes and other serious violations. He voiced apprehension that the situation could worsen even further.
According to the United Nations Human Rights Office, two attacks last week resulted in the deaths of at least 21 individuals in Gezira State, though the actual death toll is believed to be higher. These attacks occurred in two camps situated approximately 40 kilometers from the city of Wad Madani.
