3 people killed due to floods in Libya

WORLD, Sept. 11 (YPA) – Libyan authorities declared on Monday the eastern city of Susa  a disaster area after it was hit by floods and strong torrential rains due to Mediterranean Storm Daniel.

The situation in the city of Derna has become out of control and beyond the capacity of humans, Media sources reported, citing a Libyan official.

The director of the medical center in the Libyan city of Al-Bayda explained that the situation in the city has gotten out of control and the city has become a disaster city by all standards.

He said: “We have so far recorded 3 deaths and the casualties are expected to increase because there are stranded families that we could not reach.

Since Sunday afternoon, torrential floods have hit many Libyan villages and cities due to the Storm Daniel.

A number of residents, especially in the cities of the east of the country, the most affected areas by the cyclone, called on the concerned authorities to urgently intervene to save them from the water that surrounded their homes and isolated them from their surroundings, due to the significant rise in water levels.
