FM meets with WFP envoy

SANAA, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Sanaa government, Jamal Amer, met with the World Food Programme (WFP) High-Level Envoy to Yemen, Mr. Abdullah Alwardat.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to overcome current challenges and exploring practical measures implemented by the WFP to restore and enhance trust with the government, ensuring that aid reaches those in need effectively and with dignity.

 Amer explained that tangible steps taken by the High-Level Envoy can be built upon, considering them a necessary foundation for rebuilding bridges of trust and fruitful cooperation.

He stressed the government’s commitment to facilitate operations that alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing blockade, particularly for the most vulnerable communities, and underlined strict adherence to international health and food standards.

 The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the need for strict adherence to international health and food standards and criteria, emphasizing the importance that all food items and nutritional supplements reaching Yemen fully comply with approved specifications to ensure their suitability for human consumption.

 For his part, al-Wardat praised the positive spirit of cooperation with Yemeni authorities, affirming the WFP’s historical partnership with the government and its commitment to continue and develop humanitarian operations.

 He also highlighted funding challenges and ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure necessary support from donors to sustain critical aid throughout Yemen.
