WORLD, Jul. 21 (YPA) – The US Army predicts it will not be able to recruit as many troops as it had hoped over the next two years, falling short by nearly 40,000 new recruits, according a CNN report.
We’re facing unprecedented challenges with both the post-COVID-19 environment and the labor market, as well as private competition with private companies that have changed their incentives over time,” Gen. Joseph Martin, the Army’s deputy chief of staff, told the House of Commons.
The Army predicts that it will likely fall short of its FY 2022 recruitment goal by 10,000 troops and may fall short of its FY 2023 recruitment goal by 28,000 troops.
According to the report, low unemployment has hampered the ability to recruit for some time, but the situation is getting worse as fewer Americans show interest in the service.
