YPC: UN silence on Yemeni people’s suffering encouraged coalition to continue detaining fuel ships

SANAA, Oct. 07 (YPA) – The Yemeni Petroleum Company (YPC)’s Executive Director, Engineer Ammar Al-Adhrai said on Thursday that the silence of the United Nations on the suffering of Yemeni people has encouraged the Saudi-led coalition to continue to hold fuel ships.

In a tweet on Twitter, Al-Adhrai stated that “the US-led coalition released the ship (GT Freedom) after it was detained for 287 days, with delay fines of $5.7 million incurred by the Yemeni people.”

The release coincided with the coalition’s seizure of the ship (Princess Halima), which was loaded with 20,800 tons (fuel and diesel) belonging to the private sector factories, despite obtaining an entry permit from the United Nations, he added.

Al-Adhrai revealed that the percentage of the quantity of fuel released during January-September 2021, compared to the actual need, did not exceed 3% of gasoline and 5% of diesel.

The coalition had seized a new ship, “Sea Helios”, carrying 25,000 tons of diesel and belonging to private sector factories, despite obtaining UN entry permits.

According to the company, the coalition forces are still holding four oil ships, including a ship carrying mazut and diesel and three oil ships with a total tonnage of 91,640 tons of gasoline and diesel for varying periods, which amounted to more than nine months.
