Italy: “Handala” ship sets sail to break Gaza blockade

ROME, July 13 (YPA) – A new ship, “Handala,” is expected to set sail on Sunday, July 13, from the Italian port of Calabria, as part of a mission aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported Sunday that Israeli security forces are closely monitoring the preparations of pro-Palestinian activists to launch the ship from Italy.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition had previously announced the departure date of the “Handala” ship from the Italian port of Syracuse, stressing that this humanitarian mission seeks to challenge the naval blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

This comes despite the attack in which Israeli occupation forces targeted the coalition’s ship, the “Madeleine,” earlier this year.

The coalition affirmed on its Facebook page that such systematic attacks will not deter them from continuing their efforts to challenge the blockade. It also explained that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels, with residents facing death due to the worsening threats of famine and disease.
