Fire breaks out at oil refinery in Kuwait

SANAA, April 3 (YPA) – A fire at a kerosene unit in the refinery of Mina Abdulla is under control and cooling down, Kuwait state news agency KUNA said early on Wednesday.

According to the agency, the chief executive of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), Hashem Hashem, expected reason of the fire is a mechanical failure at one of the pumps.

He added that there were no injuries due to the fire, pointing out that work continues normally in the rest of the units of the refinery.

He pointed out that the fire broke out at exactly eleven and 34 minutes on Tuesday evening and that in about an hour and a quarter was control of the fire and reduce its spread after the activation of the emergency plan in its case.

He noted that there were no human injuries and that the situation was “under control” and indicated that once the fire was completely extinguished, an inquiry committee would be formed to investigate the cause of the fire in detail.
