Founder of WCK: The world is required to immediately stop famine in Gaza, “Israel” bears responsibility
GAZA, July 27 (YPA) – The founder of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) for Humanitarian Affairs, world-renowned chef José Andrés, has once again sounded the alarm about the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, calling on the international community to take urgent action to end the famine threatening the lives of millions of Palestinians.
In statements to international media on Sunday, Andrés said: “People of conscience must stop the famine in the Gaza Strip now. There is no excuse for the world to remain silent while it watches more than two million people struggle for survival amid the specter of total famine.”
He added: “The Israelis, as an occupying power, bear a legal and moral responsibility to secure the minimum means of subsistence for the civilian population in Gaza.”
He stressed that the current policies in the Strip do not meet any of the requirements of a decent human life, in the light of the destruction of infrastructure and the prevention of the flow of food and medicine.
Andrés stressed that what is happening in Gaza is not just a humanitarian crisis, but a crime being committed in full view of the world, calling for an immediate lifting of the blockade and ensuring the unconditional delivery of aid.
The World Central Kitchen is one of the most prominent international relief organizations that intervened since the first months of the war in Gaza through repeated attempts to deliver meals and food aid, despite the security and administrative obstacles imposed by the occupation.
Andres’s statements come at a time when warnings are escalating of a comprehensive collapse in the food situation in the Strip, with dozens of deaths recorded as a result of hunger and malnutrition, especially among children, the sick, and the elderly, amid the inability of international institutions to intervene effectively.
