Sanaa Criminal Court upholds death sentence against two Al-Qaeda members

SANAA, July 27 (YPA) – The Specialized Criminal Court in Sanaa on Sunday upheld the death sentence against two members of Al-Qaeda organization.

The court, headed by Judge Abdullah Al-Najjar and attended by a judicial team, accepted the appeal submitted in form and upheld the initial ruling convicting Riyadh Al-Amri and Al-Muntasir Al-Waqidi to the death penalty as a discretionary punishment.

In December 2021, the court of first instance convicted 27 defendants of crimes including targeting security and military leaders, bombings, and looting between 2015 and 2017. The ruling included prison sentences ranging from one to ten years for the remaining defendants, while Al-Amri was sentenced to death by retaliation and discretionary punishment, and Al-Waqidi was sentenced to the death as a discretionary punishment.

These crimes were intended to destabilize the country’s security and stability, according to the court.
