4 Libyan soldiers killed in first clashes in eastern Libya’s campaign to south
SANAA, Feb. 2 (YPA) – At least four Libyan soldiers were killed on Friday when forces loyal to military commander Khalifa Haftar clashed in hours of fighting with an armed group.
The clashes took place when the armed group tried to sought expanding south of Libya, military officials said.
Libya has been plagued by unrest since a NATO-backed uprising overthrew Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, with two rival governments in the east and west, while armed groups compete for influence.
Friday’s clashes were the first genuine resistance the Libyan National Army loyal to Haftar has faced since he moved into the south about two weeks ago from his main stronghold in eastern Benghazi.
