MAHRA, Sept. 24 (YPA) – Hundreds of members of Shehr tribe in Mahra province, eastern Yemen, staged on Monday a protest at Saudi Arabia’s initiation of setting up signs to determine the oil pipeline route in the Yemeni territories.
According to local officials, the Shehr tribes’ members announced an open sit-in to protest against the implementation of cement signs by a Saudi company to mark the Saudi oil pipeline route, without knowledge of the province residents or a formal agreement by the Yemeni parliament, considering this a flagrant violation of the country’s sovereignty.
The protesters demanded the suspension of the Saudi expansion works in the Shehr area, which is about 120 km from Shahin crossing, west of the desert on the Yemeni-Saudi border.
The sit-ins and protests of Mahra tribes are continuing to demand the departure of the Saudi forces from the province. The first sit-in was held in Nashton district, and another in al-Masilah area, in addition to the Shehr sit-in.
