SANAA, Aug. 02 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Jamal Amer met in Sanaa on Saturday with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for the Security and Intelligence Sector, Major General Ali Hussein al-Houthi, and the Head of the Immigration and Passports Authority, Major General Mohammed al-Hakim.
The meeting reviewed the unilateral measures taken by the Saudi-led coalition-backed government, particularly the imposition of a new national ID card that threatens Yemen’s unity and seeks to entrench political separation.
The obstacles facing citizens in the free provinces (provinces controlled by the Sanaa government), such as restrictions on their movement and rights, including criminal records for expatriates, were also discussed in the meeting.
Amer confirmed his monitoring of this dangerous escalation and raised the issue with the UN envoy, declaring his responsibility to halt these measures that undermine peace efforts. He explained that an official letter had been sent to the United Nations holding the international community responsible for the pro-coalition government’s threats to Yemen’s unity, in accordance with Security Council resolutions.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior warned of the security risks associated with the new ID card, given that its database is held by Saudi Arabia, which could threaten the security and privacy of citizens.
The Sanaa government emphasized its rejection of any attempts to divide or harm Yemen’s sovereignty and called on the international community to protect the country’s unity and stability.
