Congressional objection to the sale of 40,000 heavy bombs to Israel

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (YPA) – A proposed US arms deal with Israel, including 40,000 BLU-117 and 20,000 MK-84 907 kg bombs, has faced objections in Congress due to concerns about their use in densely populated areas of Gaza and Lebanon.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Representative Gregory Meeks objected, demanding assurances from the Trump administration that their use would comply with US and international law. The Biden administration previously halted a similar shipment for the same reason.

The objection does not cancel the deal but could delay it, with the possibility of bypassing the review through an emergency decision by the Secretary of State, amid Democratic criticism of Trump’s policy toward the war in Gaza and developments in the West Bank and Syria.
