Canada requests to join British force to reduce dependence on Washington

OTTAWA, Sept. 17 (YPA) – Ottawa has announced a formal request to join the British-led Combined Expeditionary Force, a move to expand its defense partnerships away from dependence on the United States.

The force includes 10 NATO countries: Britain, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden, and serves as a framework for cooperation and rapid crisis response.

The announcement followed a meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham in northern England, where they discussed developing defense industrial cooperation and the Global Air Combat Program, which Canada joined as an observer in July 2026.
