ADEN, June 25 (YPA) – Fuel stations across the city of Aden unexpectedly shut down on Thursday, triggering a sudden crisis after gasoline supplies were reported to have been completely depleted.
Most gas stations in the city halted sales, leading to long queues of vehicles forming outside the few remaining operational outlets. The fuel shortage coincides with a severe electricity crisis, with power outages now exceeding 16 hours per day.
Local observers suggested that the shortage may have been deliberately created ahead of a new fuel price hike, amid growing calls from residents for authorities to secure gasoline supplies and prevent shortages that could further worsen economic hardship and living conditions.
Separately, dozens of residents of the “Shaab al-Aidarous” neighborhood in Aden’s Sira district staged a protest on Wednesday outside the offices of the local Water Supply and Sanitation Corporation, denouncing the continued disruption of water services.
Protesters carried banners calling for an end to the crisis, which has coincided with prolonged power outages.
They emphasized their right to water, saying access to the service has become increasingly difficult due to inadequate intervention by the Saudi-backed local authorities.
The developments come amid a near-total collapse of basic services in Aden, with persistent power outages and deteriorating living conditions leaving the city facing growing humanitarian challenges in the absence of effective solutions.
