Yemen Airways incurred $181.46 million in losses following coalition attacks on its aircraft

SANAA, May 26 (YPA) – Yemen Airways has incurred $181.46 million in losses following Saudi-led coalitions attacks on its aircraft and operational facilities at Sana’a International Airport.

In a statement issued during a protest marking the first anniversary of the strike on an aircraft being prepared to transport pilgrims, the company said the attack destroyed six civilian aircraft and 44 operational units, and caused extensive damage to its infrastructure and service facilities.

According to the statement, direct losses totaled approximately $147.16 million, including the destruction of four active civilian aircraft worth $128 million, a $2 million training aircraft, and a $6 million presidential aircraft under maintenance. The damage also extended to 12 operational and service facilities and ground support equipment used for aircraft handling.

The company added that the suspension of flights, disruption of ticket sales and cargo operations, and the cancellation of around 1,400 flights resulted in additional losses exceeding $34 million, along with costs associated with retraining pilots, operational crews, and ground staff.

It stated that total losses since the start of the war in 2015 through 2022 have surpassed $2.7 billion, due to the destruction of aircraft and facilities, the disruption of operations, and the shutdown of sales systems.

Yemen Airways reaffirmed its legal right to pursue those responsible and seek full compensation, calling on the international community and UN bodies to protect civil aviation and keep it out of conflict zones.
