Pezeshkian: Iran won’t expand war, stresses self-defense, regional cooperation

TEHRAN, April 19 (YPA) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country does not seek to escalate the conflict, stressing that Iran has neither initiated war nor intends to do so, and that its actions fall within the framework of legitimate self-defense.

Speaking during a visit to the Ministry of Sports and Youth, he affirmed that Iran has not attacked any country, describing regional states as “brotherly” and emphasizing that stronger cooperation among them could counter external efforts to fuel divisions.

On the nuclear issue, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s right to a peaceful nuclear program, calling for fair and balanced treatment of all nations within the international system.

He also condemned attacks on civilians and infrastructure, describing them as violations inconsistent with human rights principles, and criticized what he called double standards by some international actors.

Despite internal differences, the president said, the Iranian people remain united on key national issues.
