GAZA, April 19 (YPA) – Dr. Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza Strip, warned of a “dangerous deterioration” facing food security in the Strip due to Israeli restrictions on essential commodities.
He emphasized that the flour deficit has reached critical levels, with only 200 tons available out of a daily requirement of 450 tons.
Regarding bread production, currently, only 30 bakeries are operational, producing approximately 133,000 bundles daily. These are distributed through 142 points of sale (both free and subsidized), covering only a fraction of the population’s needs.
Al-Thawabta confirmed Israeli occupation’s non-compliance with the October 2025 ceasefire agreement, which mandated the entry of 600 trucks per day. Current entry levels have not exceeded 38% of pre-war volumes.
The Media Office stressed the potential “collapse of the remaining bread provision system” due to the ongoing blockade and military violations following the agreement, calling for urgent international intervention to ensure the flow of aid.
It is noted that the Israeli war of genocide launched in October 2023 has resulted in the destruction of 90% of civilian infrastructure and continues to cause hundreds of casualties even after the recent ceasefire agreement took effect.
