GAZA, Jan. 28 (YPA) – The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned Wednesday that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains dire.
In a report released on Tuesday, OCHA affirmed that more than one million people in the Strip are in urgent need of shelter assistance, amid widespread destruction of residential areas and a severe shortage of basic needs.
“Sustainable solutions are urgently needed to meet the needs of the more than one million people requiring shelter support, including toolkits to repair people’s homes, materials to create communal heating spaces and equipment to remove debris and rubble to clear land for housing,” OCHA said.
OCHA noted that the UN and partners provide daily bread to at least 43% of Gaza’s population, either free or at subsidized rates of under $1 per 2-kilogram loaf. Monthly wheat distributions have reached roughly 1.2 million people this month.
Since last week, UN partners have also delivered cash and in-kind assistance to over 2,300 families to cope with winter conditions, along with psychosocial support and case management services for hundreds of residents.
On October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation, backed by the US and Europe, carried out a campaign of genocide in Gaza, killing, starving, destroying, displacing, and imprisoning civilians, ignoring international calls and defying orders from the International Court of Justice to halt the assault.
