Egypt denies reports of drone attack on Damietta port after fire incident

CAIRO, July 30 (YPA) – Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Wednesday issued a statement addressing a fire involving two vessels at Damietta Port, implicitly rejecting reports by British maritime security firm Ambrey that the port had been targeted in a drone attack.

The ministry said a fire broke out aboard a regasification vessel and a storage vessel at the port and that the incident was immediately handled in accordance with approved emergency response plans by the relevant authorities and on-site firefighting and security teams.

It added that Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi traveled to the site to oversee the response, monitor containment efforts, ensure the implementation of all safety measures, and coordinate with the relevant authorities until the situation was brought under control.

The ministry confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported, adding that emergency teams, in coordination with technical authorities, are continuing follow-up procedures and taking the necessary measures in line with approved safety standards.

It also said that the relevant authorities are assessing the consequences of the incident.

The ministry urged media outlets and social media users to rely on official statements for information, stressing that it will continue to provide updates as new developments emerge.
