Sanaa confirms readiness to implement Muscat agreement regarding prisoner exchange
SANAA, Jan. 26 (YPA) – The Head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs in Sanaa, Abdulqader Al-Mortada, announced on Monday Sanaa’s full readiness to move forward with the prisoner exchange agreement recently reached in the Omani capital, Muscat.
Al-Mortada emphasized their commitment to handling the implementation with transparency and credibility.
He clarified that Sanaa’s lists have been finalized since before the Muscat round, placing the responsibility for the delay on the opposing side for failing to submit their lists within the agreed-upon timeframe.
Al-Mortada attributed this delay to internal conflicts between factions loyal to Saudi Arabia, noting that while some parties seek to finalize the deal, others are obstructing it for political reasons.
He described the exchange of lists as the “most difficult phase” of any agreement due to the fragmented nature of the opposing side, where multiple factions hold different groups of prisoners, reaffirming that Sanaa still relies on UN-led efforts to push for the practical implementation of the deal.
Al-Mortada concluded by stating that the agreement was signed to be executed in full, not partially, which remains Sanaa’s primary goal in the coming period.
