Sanaa calls on UN to rectify humanitarian course, stop exploiting suffering of Yemenis
SANAA, Jan. 09 (YPA) – The Sanaa government has called on the United Nations to uphold its humanitarian responsibilities and rectify its operational path in Yemen, expressing reservations over the management of international funding and its diversion from direct relief objectives.
An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sanaa, in a statement reported by the official news agency (Saba), stated that warnings issued by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) regarding funding cuts lack purely humanitarian motives.
The source suggested that these warnings are primarily aimed at securing broad privileges and high operational costs for international staff.
He noted that a significant portion of donor funds is being consumed by excessive operational and logistical expenses, including high salaries, travel allowances, building rentals, and armored vehicle costs, at the expense of direct aid for those in need.
The statement indicated that the continuation of such practices contributes to deepening the suffering of the Yemeni people resulting from the ongoing conflict and blockade for over a decade.
Sanaa urged the UN to commit to expenditure rationalization and to fulfill its genuine humanitarian role, ensuring that support reaches beneficiaries in line with the core principles of relief work.
This position underscores the necessity of reviewing the mechanisms governing the humanitarian file to ensure the efficient delivery of aid and to alleviate the crisis in Yemen.
