Man survives assassination attempt in Mahra

MAHRA, Dec. 16 (YPA) – A citizen survived an assassination attempt on Tuesday by gunmen of the pro-UAE Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions in the city of al-Ghayda, the center of al-Mahra province, eastern Yemen.

Human rights sources quoted that a citizen called “Adnan” from the Socotra archipelago, was shot by STC’s elements while passing his car on the Corniche of the city, because of the presence of a sticker logo of the Republic of Yemen on his car.

The sources explained that the citizen miraculously survived the bullets that he was directly targeted with, in an incident described as serious, because it poses a direct threat to security and social peace in the province.

The incident sparked a wave of widespread discontent in the popular and tribal circles in Mahra, and activists on media social considered it new evidence of the systematic targeting of civilians on symbolic and national backgrounds.

Since the end of 2017, the Mahra sons have been demanding an end to the presence of foreign forces, reducing the organized targeting that threatens the social fabric.

During their open sit-in, they were demanding the return of the pro-UAE factions that arrived in Al-Ghaydah city after they overran the cities of Hadramout.
