SANAA, Dec. 11 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Ministry of foreign affairs strongly slammed on Thursday the statements of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, regarding the people accused of espionage, some of whom were detained and referred to the competent judiciary.
In its statement, the ministry described Guterres ‘statements as representing a blatant bias and unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Yemen and a clear violation of the principle of respect for the sovereignty of states and the independence of their judicial authorities.
The statement stressed that the measures taken against the implicated elements were carried out in accordance with the established legal frameworks, after proving their involvement in acts that threaten the security and stability of the country.
It stressed that the Yemeni judiciary represents an independent authority, and no party may interfere in its course, question its judgments, or infringe on its independence.
Sanaa considered that the UN Secretary-General should have condemned the “aggression” that targeted the Yemeni government in Sanaa and opened an internal investigation, instead of criticizing the Sanaa authorities, which carried out its duty to take the necessary security and judicial measures to ensure the country’s security, protect its citizens, and achieve justice and accountability.
The ministry’s statement called on the UN secretary-general to review his negative attitudes towards Sanaa and to work to correct the imbalances and excesses that have marred the performance of the International Organization in Yemen.
