Drone attack kills, wounds pro-UAE faction recruits in Shabwa

SHABWA, Dec. 11 (YPA) – A recruit of pro-UAE factions was killed and two others injured by an aerial attack that targeted one of their positions in Al-Saeed district in Shabwa governorate, southeast of Yemen, local sources reported on Wednesday.

The sources stated that “Al-Qaeda organization elements carried out the attack late Wednesday using a drone that targeted a position belonging to the UAE-funded ‘6th Thunderbolt Brigade’ in the Al-Musayna’a area.”

According to the sources, the attack resulted in the killing of one person and the injuring of two others, and was followed by armed clashes and heavy gunfire at the site.

This incident occurs amidst a noticeable escalation in the pace of Al-Qaeda operations against the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council’s factions in Shabwah and Abyan governorates, specifically one day after the organization’s elements carried out a sniping operation targeting one of the faction’s members in the Modiyah district of Abyan last Tuesday.

Al-Qaeda’s attacks, which are accused of receiving support and funding from Islah Party, have been launched repeatedly since the pro-UAE factions took control of the Ataq axis camps in August 2022. This escalation also coincides with the pro-UAE factions taking control of camps in Hadramout and Mahra last week.
