ABYAN, Oct. 25 (YPA) – Three people were killed and others injured due to violent clashes erupted in a popular market in the coastal city of Shaqra, Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen, which is under the control of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions.
Local sources confirmed that the clashes broke out yesterday, in a popular market of selling “qat” in the city of Shaqra in Khanfar district, between tribal gunmen belonging to the “Al-Maqour Al-Sahili” and “Al-Maqour Al-Jabal” families, resulting in the deaths of three people and the wounding of many passersby with varying injuries.
They stated that the clashes were due to an old tribal vendetta between the two tribes. The dispute began with a heated exchange of gunfire, which developed into a heavy exchange of gunfire in the market crowded with citizens and vendors.
They noted that one of those killed by the gunmen’s bullets, named “Al-Raimi,” hails from Raymah Governorate and works in a mattress shop in Shaqra.
The clashes sparked panic and terror among citizens and residents near the market
It is worth noting that this incident is an extension of similar incidents, as clashes broke out between members of the “Al-Maraqsha” tribe and gunmen from the Al-Subaiha tribes in Lahj, in the middle of the Jaar market last Wednesday in Abyan, resulting in the death of a Somali woman and the injury of several others.
Activists from the governorate accuse the leaders of the Transitional Council factions affiliated with the UAE of fueling tribal conflicts with the aim of weakening and dismantling the social fabric, and continuing to be the sole effective force controlling the fate of the areas under their control.
