SANAA, Oct. 24 (YPA) – The Specialized Criminal Division in Sanaa on Saturday upheld the death sentence for three defendants and commuted the sentences of 15 others.
The defendants were convicted of the “crimes of espionage and aiding the Saudi-led coalition states (Saudi Arabia and the UAE) to harm the military, political, and economic status of the Republic of Yemen.
The division accepted the appeal filed by some of the 32 defendants and the prosecution, and affirmed the initial ruling that convicted and sentenced to death to each of Mohammed Hassan Hassan Hilal, Salem Ahmed Ali Rashed, and Mohammed Hussein Yahya Al-Ghawy.
In contrast, the division modified the sentence for four other convicted individuals from the death penalty to fifteen years of imprisonment each. It also reduced the prison terms for 11 other defendants.
The division also upheld the initial ruling for two defendants to be released, having served their time, and acquitted three others.
