Military coup ousts leader of Saudi-funded Salafi “Dera Al-Watan” factions in Hadramout
HADRAMOUT, Oct. 19 (YPA) – A military coup occurred within the Saudi-funded Salafi “Dera Al-Watan” factions in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, an informed source revealed on Sunday.
The source clarified that the coup overthrew the leadership of the “Second Dera Al-Watan Division,” represented by Commander Fahd Salem Ba’moumen, who hails from Hadramout.
The Hadhrami journalist Sabri Bin Mukhashin confirmed that Saudi Arabia issued a decision to suspend Ba’moumen and replace him with leaders from outside Hadramout.
Bin Mukhashin described the decision, issued by the “Dera Al-Watan” commander Bashir Al-Mudharabi Al-Subaihi, as “regionalistic” (Manatiqi) and contrary to previous agreements stipulating that the division’s leadership should be from the people of Hadramout. He attributed the suspension decision to Ba’moumen’s refusal to recognize the “Third and Fourth Brigades” as part of his division and his rejection of dictates aimed at changing the Hadhrami composition of the factions.
Bin Mukhashin added that the ousting expanded to include other first-line Hadhrami leaders who founded “Dera Al-Watan,” pointing to the appointment of leaders from outside Hadramout in sensitive positions. He warned that this threatens to ignite internal tensions due to what he described as marginalization and regionalistic decisions.
