GAZA, Oct. 06 (YPA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Monday the temporary suspension of its office in Gaza City, amid the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the lack of basic necessities of life in the besieged Strip.
The ICRC spokesperson in Gaza told Al Jazeera that the suspension decision was a result of the harsh security and humanitarian conditions that hinder the work of field teams, stressing there were no supplies necessary for life in the Gaza Strip.
The spokesperson added that the ICRC stresses the need to allow safe humanitarian access to civilians in various areas of the Strip, noting that ICRC teams are facing increasing difficulties in delivering medical and food aid to those affected by the blockade and Israeli military operations.
The official warned of an urgent need to provide shelter materials before the onset of winter, adding that thousands of displaced families are still living in the open or in dilapidated tents that lack protection from the rain or the cold.
For months, Gaza has been experienced an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, with power outages, water scarcity, and deteriorating health services, all amidst the ongoing Israeli blockade that has exacerbated civilian suffering and led to a near-total collapse of infrastructure and basic services.
