Yemen’s youth team eliminates top contender, reaches Gulf Cup final

ABHA, Sept. 08 (YPA) – Yemen’s youth football team has added a new achievement to its football history, securing a spot in the final of the inaugural U-20 Gulf Cup after a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Oman on Sunday evening.

Mohammad Al-Barwani scored the opening goal for Yemen in an exciting first half that also saw Yemen’s star player, Adel Abbas, miss a penalty kick and an Omani player receive a red card.

Despite being a man down, Oman pushed to get back into the match but also missed a penalty of their own. However, Yemen’s Zaid Al-Jarash sealed the deal with a second goal in the final moments, confirming the team’s dominance and sending them to the championship match.

Yemen will now face Saudi Arabia on Wednesday in a highly anticipated final, where the Yemeni youth team hopes to claim their first-ever Gulf title. The Saudi team, known as “The Green Falcons,” advanced to the final after a 2-1 semi-final win against Iraq.
