KHARTOUM, Aug. 05 (YPA) – Sudan has accused the UAE of recruiting and financing Colombian mercenaries to fight against the army on behalf of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Foreign parties are accused of involvement in the ongoing civil war, particularly the UAE’s support for the RSF.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a war between the army and the RSF, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of 13 million people, four million of whom have fled abroad. This has also led to a humanitarian crisis considered the worst in the world, according to the United Nations.
On Monday, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement stating, “The government of Sudan has all the documents and evidence proving the involvement of mercenaries from the Republic of Colombia and some neighboring countries, sponsored and funded by the UAE.”
Mercenaries have been spotted in both camps, and the first reports of the presence of Colombian fighters in the Darfur region in the west of the country emerged late last year, according to UN experts.
