Four women killed, six injured after being struck by lightning in Amran

AMRAN, July 31 (YPA) –  Four women were killed and six others injured after being struck by lightning in the village of Ammd in the Iyal Surayh district of Yemen’s Amran province during a heavy rain, the Civil Defense Authority’s Amran branch said on Friday.

According to the Civil Defense Authority, the injured were rushed to nearby health facilities to receive the necessary medical treatment.

The authority expressed its deep sorrow over the tragic incident and renewed its warning to the public about the dangers posed by lightning strikes as unstable weather conditions and the rainy season continue.

It urged residents to avoid open areas during rainfall and thunderstorms and to stay away from tall trees, power poles, and metal objects.

The authority also advised disconnecting electrical appliances and avoiding the use of mobile and landline phones during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of lightning strikes.

It further emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines, monitoring official weather advisories, and taking necessary precautionary measures to protect lives and minimize casualties.
