UN Commissioner describes what is happening in Gaza as humiliating to humanity

SANAA, Aug. 05 (YPA) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, described the humanitarian situation in Gaza, in a strongly worded statement, as “an insult to all of humanity,” noting that the scenes of famine prevalent in reports and photos are “heartbreaking and unbearable.”

The UN Commissioner criticized the severe restrictions imposed by the occupation on the entry of humanitarian aid, saying that “the quantities allowed are far less than the actual needs, and that delays in its delivery directly lead to casualties.”

Türk called for rapid, adequate, and unrestricted access to aid, stressing that “saving lives must be everyone’s priority,” and renewed his demand for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilians.

He also stressed that “preventing food access constitutes a war crime,” noting that “the current conditions represent a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.”
