EDINBURGH, Aug. 02 (YPA) – Scottish First Minister Swinney called on the UK government to immediately and unconditionally recognize the State of Palestine, stressing that this recognition should not be subject to negotiation or conditional on other considerations.
Swinney criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s position, which linked recognition of Palestine to the occupation taking steps towards a two-state solution and halting its aggression against Gaza. He emphasized that recognition of the State of Palestine is a legitimate right and not a tool of political pressure.
He stressed the need to declare Palestine a sovereign state, to immediately cease fire in the Middle East, and to deliver urgent aid to the starving people of Gaza, while demanding that Israel immediately lift restrictions.
Swinney highlighted the suffering of the people of Gaza under bombardment and siege, calling for a two-state solution and the achievement of peace without conditions.
