LA imposes night curfew for second consecutive day

LOS ANGELES, June 12 (YAP) – US authorities in Los Angeles have imposed a partial curfew for the second consecutive day on Thursday, from 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM, as protests continue into the sixth day.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said  that the curfew would run from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and it is expected to last for several days.

The mayor emphasized that the area under curfew was around one square mile, in a city of around 500 square miles, and was intended to prevent scattered episodes of looting and damage to businesses.

Nearly 200 people were arrested on Tuesday in Los Angeles before the curfew went into effect, officials said, the most in a day since the protests began Friday.

According to the Washington Post, President Donald Trump is prepared to deploy National Guard troops to additional US cities if the protests against deportation campaigns spread beyond Los Angeles. This could pave the way for the largest use of military force on American soil in modern history.
