Lebanon arrests Yemeni diplomat accused of spying for Israel’s Mossad

BEIRUT, June 11 (YPA) – Lebanese security sources reported the arrest of a Yemeni diplomat in Beirut suspected of working for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad from within Lebanese territory.

According to the sources, the individual—identified as Moqbil B. A. H., a Yemeni national born in Hodeida in 1992—entered Lebanon on March 4, 2025, with an official letter from the foreign ministry of the Aden government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition.

The suspect, who reportedly held the position of advisor at the Yemeni Embassy in Beirut, was detained in a hotel in the Hamra district after staying at several hotels across the city.

During interrogations, he reportedly confessed to being recruited by Mossad while in Egypt in exchange for residency facilitation in France, security sources said.

He allegedly admitted to carrying out intelligence and logistical tasks for Israel, including providing information and coordinates related to Yemeni infrastructure and economic sites that were later targeted—most notably the Amran Cement Factory.

The Unews news agency reported that he also confessed to purchasing a Mercedes-Benz vehicle for use in his movements within Lebanon.

He has been referred to Lebanon’s Intelligence Directorate for further questioning under judicial supervision.

For its part, diplomatic sources at the Foreign Ministry in Sana’a stated that the alleged spy was an official employee of what they described as the “mercenary forces,” affirming that he had no affiliation with the Sana’a-based government.

The sources stressed that statements from Lebanese security authorities clearly confirmed his connection to “the other party”—a reference to the internationally recognized Yemeni government based in Riyadh.

The sources also criticized attempts by pro-coalition media to deflect blame and link the case to Ansarullah, describing it as a disinformation effort aimed at undermining Yemen’s unified stance on the Palestinian cause.
