Sanaa accuses of Islah Party of rejection to conduct prisoner exchange deal

SANAA, June 10 (YPA) – Head of the Sanaa-based Prisoners’ Affairs Committee, Abdul Qader al-Mortada, announced that the committee has not received any official response from the other party for last three days for a prisoner swap.

He noted that what has been issued so far has been merely media statements from the Islah Party’s representative on the prisoner issue, Hadi al-Haij, who criticized the media coverage of the issue and demanded that the fate of Mohammed Qahtan be disclosed as a condition for accepting the call.

” “Those delaying the disclosure of Mohammed Qahtan’s fate are the Islah Party in Marib,” he explained. “They have refused to reveal the fate of hundreds of prisoners, who has been held for ten years and prevented them from communicating with their families or visiting them.”

He pointed out that Mohammed Qahtan’s fate had been previously decided during the recent Muscat round under a well-recognized agreement sponsored by the United Nations and signed by both parties, but that the Islah Party has refused to implement it.

Al-Mortada emphasized the National Committee’s readiness to implement the agreement at any time.

The committee’s head pointed out that the call for a comprehensive exchange aimed to end the suffering of all prisoners, including Mohammed Qahtan, without the need for preconditions.”If they had sincere intentions to end this issue, the comprehensive exchange we offered would have been sufficient to guarantee the release of all their prisoners.”

He explained that the committee’s resort to discussing the issue in the media outlets was a result of the other party’s intransigence and its closing of all doors to dialogue,” its refusal to hold any new round of negotiations, and its obstruction of the efforts of local and international mediators.

Al-Mortada accused the Islah Party of seeking to keep the issue away from the media outlets in order to conceal the facts and deceive the families of the prisoners by claiming to be working to free their sons.

He concluded his statement by emphasizing that the committee’s announcement established a case against them and exposed their position to everyone, calling on anyone who may doubts the seriousness of the offer to take the initiative to implement the comprehensive deal that excludes no one, to see the extent of Sanaa’s sincerity and commitment.
