WASHINGTON, June 10 (YPA) – The commanding officer of the USS Gettysburg, Captain John Lucas, has revealed the nature of the mission the ship carried out in the Red Sea, describing it as “difficult” but “amazing in many ways”.
Captain John Lucas noted that the experience was an important learning opportunity for the crew, with many lessons learned that would be shared with the rest of the fleet for widespread benefit.
The cruiser’s commander also addressed the incident in the Red Sea involving the downing of an FA-18 Super Hornet fighter jet, stressing that investigations were still ongoing to determine the details of the incident and its precise circumstances.
He expressed uncertainty about the future, saying, “We were unsure what the future holds,” but added with a sense of humor that the crew needed “a bit of rest, like a long winter’s sleep in the middle of summer,” referring to the need for a break after a grueling mission.
