WASHINGTON, May 17 (YPA) – At least 20 people were killed on Saturday in the central United States after tornadoes caused significant damage in St. Louis.
“Unfortunately, this death toll is expected to rise as more information becomes available,” Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said in a post on X.
Seven deaths in neighboring Missouri, including several in St. Louis, according to Agence France-Presse.
“Our city is in mourning tonight,” St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer told reporters Friday evening. “The loss of life is horrific, as is the devastation.”
In 2024, tornadoes killed 54 people in the United States, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
