Activist Waseem Al-A’qrabi tortured in STC prison in Aden, Human rights sources say

ADEN, May 09 (YPA) – Abducted activist, Waseem Fadl Al-A’qrabi, has been subjected to brutal torture inside one of the prisons run by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, Human rights sources reported

According to the sources, Al-A’qrabi was subjected to various forms of inhumane torture in one of the prisons operated by the “Security Belt” factions.

They noted that the torture of activists is a blatant violation and a serious affront to the dignity and freedom of detainees, regardless of their political or human rights positions.

In a statement, the so-called “Coordination of Civil and Human Rights Forces” condemned the torture of Al-A’qrabi in a statement, affirming that it would not stand idly by in the face of such humanitarian crimes, while also calling for his immediate release.

The statement described the repression, abduction, and torture of activists in STC-run prisons as “terrorism,” stressing that human rights are non-negotiable and must not be manipulated.

This comes after STC factions abducted several citizens and activists in recent days in connection with widespread protests in Aden over the deterioration of public services, primarily electricity.
