UN: 92% of infants in Gaza are lacking access to basic nutrition

GAZA, April  01 (YPA) – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the occupied Palestinian territories has reported a concerning 80% rise in the number of children receiving treatment for malnutrition in April compared to March. This escalating crisis is due to Israel’s ongoing blockade and the closure of border crossings, which significantly hinder the delivery of vital supplies.

In a report issued on Wednesday, OCHA disclosed that 92% of infants aged six months to two years, along with their mothers, are deprived of the minimum essential nutritional needs, exposing them to serious long-term health risks.

The report also noted that 65% of Gaza’s population lacks access to clean drinking water, further intensifying the already critical humanitarian crisis.

As the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip enters its 61st day, international humanitarian organizations are increasingly warning of the spread of famine and malnutrition in the enclave, especially among children. Renewed calls have been made to pressure “Israel” to open the crossings and allow the entry of relief supplies and humanitarian aid.
