Massive wildfires rage across Palestine occupied territories amid high winds

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, May 01 (YPA) – Massive fires continue to rage in the Jerusalem mountains and conditions are expected to worsen starting this afternoon as western winds pick up again, renewing the risk of wildfires, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Thursday,.

According to estimates, the window of opportunity to contain the fire will close starting at 2:00 p.m.

It is expected that between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM, strong westerly winds will return, requiring firefighting teams to intensify their efforts to the utmost.

The newspaper reported that more than 100 firefighting teams continue to battle massive wildfires in the Jerusalem hills, where 19,000 dunams (approx. 4,700 acres) of land have been burned.

The so-called Zionist Fire and Rescue Authority stated that 155 firefighting teams are still operating at full capacity across all fire hotspots.

At dawn, firefighting aircraft from the “Elad” squadron began conducting aerial sorties over major fire zones and near residential areas to create a barrier between the flames and homes.

Authorities confirmed that the fire has not yet been brought under control.
